World Bowls 2020 – Meet the Ireland Team
Meet Ireland’s World Bowls Team who will be competing at the Gold Coast in Australia at the World Championships
Aaron Tennant Men’s Triples and Fours
Aaron is 28 years old and plays at Ballymoney BC. He has previously won British Isles Pairs with Gary Kelly and the Hong Kong Classic with Ian McClure. This will his first appearance at the World Championships.
Ian McClure Men’s Triples and Fours
Ian is 46 years old and plays for Portrush BC and has 4 previous World Bowls medals. He has also won the Commonwealth Games Fours Medal and the World Indoor Pairs Title.
Mark Wilson Men’s Pairs and Fours
Mark is 35 years old and has won 2 Irish Pairs Titles, and a Singles Title. He also has a Team Gold from the European Championships and an Atlantic Rim Bronze Medal. Mark plays for Cookstown BC
Sarah Kelly Ladies Pairs and Fours
Sarah is 33 years old and has won back to back pairs titles with her mother in 2018 and 2019. She represented Ireland at the Hong Kong Classic in 2016 and has captained Ireland in a Test Series against Jersey in 2018. She is an experienced International Player who will be making her debut appearance at World Bowls. She plays her bowls for Crumlin BC
Martin McHugh Men’s Pairs and Fours
Martin is 46 and has a Bronze Medal in both the Triples and Fours at World Bowls. He also has a Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games in the Fours. He currently plays for Whitehead Bowls Club.
Catherine Beattie Ladies Triples and Singles
Catherine plays for Lurgan BC and is 38 years old. She has won back to back Atlantic Rim Gold medals in 2011 and 2015. She has also won Team Gold at the European Championships in 2017
Megan Devlin Ladies Triples and Fours
Megan is 26 years old and plays for Ballymena BC. She has won a Gold and 2 Silvers at the European Championships in 2017. She has also captained the Irish U-25 Team having played for them for 13 years.
Gary Kelly Men’s Singles and Triples
Gary is 30 years old and is currently playing his bowls in Australia. He has multiple Irish and British Titles as well as medals at World and Commonwealth level. He is also the current World Cup Singles holder.
Shauna O’Neill Ladies Fours and Triples
Shauna is the youngest player in the Squad and plays for Limavady BC. She has won Irish U-25 Singles and has also medalled at the Atlantic Rim Triples in 2019. She was part of the team that finished 4th in the European Championships.
Ashleigh Rainey Ladies Pairs and Fours
Ashleigh plays for Ewarts BC and is one of the most experienced players in the Ladies Squad. She has played for Ireland both Indoors and Outdoors for many years and has medalled at the recent Atlantic Rim Championships in 2019.
